Hello!

How about another update from the life of a 3rd year Regis DPT student? Ready.

I’ve been getting to do more and more in my clinical rotation, which has been pretty neat. It’s encouraging to have established a relationship with a professional (your Clinical Instructor) who trusts you to treat his/her patients. I’ve gotten more confident handling the babies. Most of our patients are less than one year old. Most of the rest are less than seven years old so, as you can imagine, this rotation has provided quite the learning experience. It’s a whole different ball game when you’re trying to provide physical therapy to infants and toddlers who can’t reason with you and typically only want to do what they want.

I was really fortunate to have a fun birthday celebration to look forward to. Our neighbors have a condo in Vail, and they let us have it for weekend. My husband and I got to explore both Vail and Beaver Creek. Not only was it beautiful, it was fantastically convenient to stay in town instead of spending hours driving back and forth from Denver to play in the mountains. Both resorts look like a piece of Europe landed in the Rocky Mountains! We didn’t have ski passes to Vail or Beaver Creek, so we snow-shoed on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re like me, you may not have known that modern-day humans actually snowshoe, even if they’re not in Alaska. (Balto, anyone?) It’s true. Snowshoeing is apparently a hobby enjoyed by many Coloradans, and the shoes do not look the slightest bit like woven tennis rackets. News to me!

On Saturday at the end of our trek, we saw three guys building an igloo- no joke, they said two of them were going to sleep there that night! We passed the same place the next day and saw the completed igloo. I don’t think that is my idea of a fun way to spend the night, but it was incredible to see. I climbed inside that second day. The igloo was probably 8’ in diameter and 4’ high inside.

Sunday we hiked over a mountain in Vail Pass, and made it to a breathtaking view of a valley. No one else was around, but we could see scattered trails made by cross country skiers. The snow was glistening and the weather was perfect.

We finished the weekend with dinner in Beaver Creek before heading back to Denver and the real world Sunday night.

I hope you’re having a wonderful season, whatever your holiday tradition may be. I celebrate Christmas, personally, and can’t wait to show you pictures of Denver’s Christmas scene next time I write. Take care of yourself til then!
