Hello and Happy New Year!
Last week I gave my in-service presentation to the rehab department of the hospital I’m working in. It’s a requirement to give a presentation during our 3rd and 4th clinical rotations. The topic I chose was the differential diagnosis of visceral pain, which seemed like an appropriate title for my presentation. Nevertheless, my CI decided to change its name to the more lively “The Tangled Web of Pain: The Hows, the Whys, and the Wherefores.” With that kind of name, I was terrified someone would ask a question that I wouldn’t be able to answer. So I tried to make the best chocolate chip cookies they’d ever tasted, to share and distract the audience from asking anything. I think it worked! You’ll learn all about the subject in your 2nd year of PT school.
So, who had the best Christmas lights in your neighborhood? Did they beat this guy?
This is a house down the street from Regis. I saw another house with a giant snowman on top- probably 20’ high- but didn’t catch a photo in time to share with you.
Here’s the Denver City and County Hall building:
You can’t tell from this photo, but the words “Merry Christmas” are lit on the roof of the Hall and there is a nativity in front. I find that quite impressive for Denver, and I appreciate that a lot.
This is 16th Street Mall, just a few blocks from where I live.
The Denver Christmas Market is also on 16th Street Mall. They sell all types of things from handmade ornaments to log reindeers to smoked salmon and roasted cinnamon almonds- yum!

I had a great time with friends from church making gingerbread (graham cracker) houses. Mine did not look nearly as cute as Lauren and Crystal’s creative homes.
Lauren is a professional designer, but Crystal is a PT student so I guess I can't blame my lack of creativity on being in PT!
Since my husband and I were staying in town for Christmas, I was so excited to get a Christmas tree and decorate the condo for the holidays. I wanted to make it as homey as possible. We got to go to several fun get-togethers during the past few weeks, including an annual Advent tradition hosted by my friend Jill. Each week of Advent, she hosts a potluck dinner for us, provides a reflection regarding the coming of Christ, and then we finish by singing carols. It’s a neat time of fellowship and preparation for Christmas amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Miles and I also got to hang out with some of my classmates, which is always wonderful to catch up and have fun together. And, we had a joint birthday dinner for myself, Josh, and Katie last Thursday.
After church on Christmas eve, we went to his family’s Christmas party in Aurora (Denver suburb). The host was- get this- his grandmother’s cousin, and everyone was somehow distantly related to Miles! The connections were fascinating and the party was crazy, literally. There was a white elephant gift exchange, and the family was pretty serious about their gift stealing. Miles and I came out ahead, I think. We brought some unwanted wedding gifts (yes, we re-gifted but isn’t that expected in a white elephant?? And anyways, they were brand new…) and ended up with 4 huge beer mugs and 4 Broncos beer mugs. I got Miles the beer mugs during my turn to steal and told him it was his Christmas present- but I was just kidding.
We made a crepe breakfast on Christmas day and Skyped with his family (immediate family) as we opened presents, then we made dinner for my family, who flew into town Christmas night. Now we’re getting to spend a few days in Keystone, skiing and snowboarding. Hopefully we’ll get to snowshoe, too.
Thursday, Dec 29, if you have TLC- check out the premier of Hook, Line, and Sisters. Do you remember my friend Sierra, who I talked about last year? We went to her house for a sushi/salmon party for my last birthday? Well, she landed a contract with Discovery Communications and has created a new TV show that airs on TLC and hopefully the Discovery Channel, soon! We get to go to a launch party that Vail Resorts is throwing her in Breckenridge.
I’ll keep you updated, as long as you take care of yourself.
Only one more week after this for me in my current clinical rotation, then I’ll have a two week break. Twelve weeks flies by!
Best,
M
